Colorado’s 2026 Furnace Regulations: What You Need to Know

Starting this year, standard gas furnaces are no longer the norm. All new HVAC installations in Colorado must now feature advanced combustion technology to reduce emissions. We offer two primary paths for your home:

Ultra-Low NOx (ULN) Furnaces: These units emit less than 14 nanograms of nitrogen oxide per joule, significantly improving local air quality.
Energy Star Certified (96%+ AFUE): For maximum efficiency, we install 97% and 98% AFUE models that waste virtually zero fuel, qualifying you for the highest tier of 2026 furnace rebates.

The Avalanche Advantage: High-Altitude Specialists

Installing a furnace at 6,200 feet is different than at sea level. Without proper “derating” and calibration, a furnace will underperform and fail prematurely.

High-Altitude Kits: We ensure every gas furnace installation includes the correct orifice and pressure switch adjustments for Castle Rock’s elevation.
Variable-Speed Blowers: We recommend systems that adapt to changing air density, providing more consistent airflow and quieter operation.
Carrier & Champion Experts: As authorized dealers, we provide industry-leading warranties and proprietary components tested for extreme cold snaps.

What is the cost of a new furnace installation in 2026?

In 2026, the cost for installing a new furnace typically ranges between $7,000 and $12,000. This price reflects the advanced technology and efficiency standards required by new regulations, but the investment is offset by long-term savings and potential tax credits.

Are there rebates available for furnace replacements in Colorado?

Yes, Colorado residents can benefit from the 2026 Federal Tax Credits, which allow you to claim 30% of the cost, up to $600, for high-efficiency gas furnaces. Additionally, local utility companies like Xcel Energy offer rebates ranging from $500 to $1,000.

Can I purchase a standard 80% efficiency furnace?

Standard 80% efficiency furnaces are being phased out in favor of models with 95%+ AFUE due to new regulations. While some older models may still be available, we recommend upgrading to ensure compliance and future-proofing your home.
